Redirecting My Energy

Recently, a poster on the Demand Studio’s writer forum asked about blogging as a source of income. It wasn’t an original question, yet valid, especially for writers seeking to eke out a living in this tough economy.

There were a number of predictable responses, such as reminding the original poster that blogging is a long term commitment, and monetary results don’t come quick (if at all). According to Wikipedia, there were over 156 million public blogs, as of February 16, 2011. That’s a lot of blogging going on, and while most probably aren’t income producers, there are success stories.

I’ve always felt it takes more than a good writer to be a successful blogger. I believe the writer needs to be passionate about a topic, and consistent in posting.

All of this got me to thinking about my own blogs. As I write this post, I have nine active blogs - ten, if you count this one, which is new. All that will change after today.

In the past, my posting has been sporadic. I might post regularly, day after day, and then go weeks without making an entry.  Yet, my biggest issue – I am far too eclectic. Too many things interest me, and instead of focusing on one blog, I’ve allowed myself to get distracted and go in too many directions at once. I’ve made a decision. As of today, my blogging routine changes.

My new and primary blog will be this one: Mid-Journey. I’ll explain the reason for the blog’s name in a later post, yet I imagine it is pretty easy to figure out.

I won’t be zapping my old blogs, yet I will let 80% of them go dormant. When I finish writing this, I’ll be posting my “moving” sign on each site.

Those soon to be dormant blog sites include:
Craft Classics
Recipe Traditions
Motherhood
Ancestor Safari
Robeth
Internet Addicted

While the blogs will go dormant, and any entry I might have posted to one of them will go here, five of the six are attached to websites and the websites will NOT go dormant. I will continue to update the websites.

I virtually retired from real estate over three years ago, and have since turned the Havasu Holmes real estate blog over to my husband, Don, who continues to be an active broker and agent in Havasu. He is an infrequent poster.

Two blogs I will keep going and separate from this are Havasu Magazine and Trying the South Beach Diet.

I hope to expand the Havasu Magazine blog, making the entries helpful to those seeking local information. As for Trying the South Beach Diet, that is more a personal diet diary of sorts, to keep me focused as I work to achieve a healthy weight - so I can live longer and be around longer, to annoy my kids.

As for the actual purpose of Mid-Journey....let's wait and see.
